July Flash Challenge

Here's your Flash Fic Challenge!

3D Villains—Oh My! Challenge
(A Characterization and Point-of-View Challenge: Breathing Life Into the Villain)

It will be your mission, if you so choose to accept, to have your Flash Fic fulfill the following elements:

  1. Choose a well-known fairytale and retell it from the point of view of the villain. (May be first person or third person.)
  2. Craft a 3D villain. Bring the character to life. Characterize, characterize, characterize. Give him/her motivation, make him/her dynamic, realistic, etc., etc. (Too many times, FP's villains are static, one-dimensional, and uninteresting.)
  3. State which fairytale you chose at the top of your document.

Note: Because it's only 1,000 words, it can be just a scene. Just make sure it's still coherent and cohesive.

Key: Points are awarded for characterization and how effective the POV/narration is in bringing out the character. This is NOT a "twist the fairytale plot" challenge. The story, for the most part, should stay the same. The key is characterization.

That's all. Happy writing! :)

Standard rules apply:

  1. Your submission must not exceed 1,000 words (not including Author's Note, Disclaimer, Title, etc.),
  2. It cannot be posted to FictionPress until the deadline has passed, and
  3. It must be in Mae's inbox, via the submission form by July 21st, 2010 at 11:59PM Pacific Standard Time
